At the southern end of Metro Manila, Muntinlupa has the relaxed, self-contained quality of a city that does not feel the need to prove anything. Alabang is the commercial and dining center, anchored by several malls and a surrounding cluster of restaurants that have built steady local followings over the years. The crowd here is largely residential — families from the subdivisions nearby, South residents who have no particular reason to drive north for a meal when everything they need is close to home. Prices are competitive, and the Filipino-Chinese dining that anchors many local favorites is executed with the kind of consistency that comes from cooking for the same community for a long time. There is a quieter restaurant strip culture here too, with independent spots tucked into commercial buildings that reward a slow weekend afternoon spent exploring without an itinerary.
